Google Sans Clock
Pleasure being part of an international team to produce this innovative variable type project.
Google Sans Clock is a typeface that is intended for use in vertically stacked HH over MM and conventional horizontal HH:MM type setting of digital clocks. It is a 144pt design with variable weight (wght) and swing (SWNG, default numeral set only) design axes.
The utilization of type variable technology in this project was very attractive to me and one of its firsts.
The typeface moves on variable axes to allow the font to variate from a 0 weight to 700 as the screen moves from stand-by mood to awake, leading to saving battery life.
